Prof  Gherhardt Ribatski

University of São Paulo

Dr. Gherhardt Ribatski is Full Professor of Multiphase Flow and Heat Transfer at the São Carlos School of Engineering, University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. He received his BS, MSc. and Doctoral Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of São Paulo. He held postdoctoral positions at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and Universidade da Coruña. His research interests cover various areas of multiphase flows and heat transfer.

Prof. Ribatski is member of the Congress Committee of International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) and Brazilian Delegate to the Assembly for International Heat Transfer Conferences. He is member of Assembly of World Conferences on Experimental Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Virtual Institute of Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer, Scientific Council of the International Centre for Heat and Mass Transfer (ICHMT). He was Director Secretary (2016-2017) and is member and President of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (2018-2021).

He has served as coordinator of the CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel- Brazil) committee for evaluation of graduate programs in the areas of Mechanical, Mechatronics, Naval and Ocean, Aeronautical, Industrial and Petroleum Engineering.

He is member of the area panel of Engineering of FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation – Brazil). Prof. Ribatski is subject editor of Applied Thermal Engineering, editor of Experimental Thermal and Fluid Sciences and member of the Editorial Advisory Board of International Journal of Multiphase Flow.

He has presented 11 keynote lectures and taken part in the scientific committee of several International Conferences. Dr. Ribatski has over 100 refereed journal publications, 6 book chapters, 1 book and over 120 refereed papers in conferences.

Prof  Yuying Yan

University of Nottingham

Yuying Yan had BSc in Internal combustion engine engineering at Jilin University in 1982, MSc in Thermal Science Engineering at Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering in 1986, PhD in Mechanical Engineering at City, University of London in 1996 with ORS award from the UK Vice Chancellor Committees and Mars Confectionery. After taking research & academic positions at University of Surrey and Nottingham Trent University, respectively, he joined University of Nottingham since 2004, and was promoted to full Professor of Thermofluids Engineering since 2011.

Prof. Yan’s research covers widely range of thermofluids engineering including heat transfer enhancement, phase change, nanofluids and nature inspired solutions for energy efficiency and thermal management. He received Design & Nature Award & U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Scientist Awards in 2004, Royal Academy of Engineering Research Exchanges with China and India Award 2011, etc.

He was an elected Fellow of International Society of Bionic Engineering in 2015, Yangtze River guest professor in 2015, and Li dak sum Chair Professor in 2017, WSSET fellow in 2020. After chairing the first International Symposium of Biomimetic Functional Surfaces and Fluids in 2009, he has chaired or co-chaired over 10 international conferences/events. He has authored or co-authored over 450 papers including about 300 journal papers.

He serves as Associate Editor for Elsevier Journal “Case Studies in Thermal Engineering”, and Senior Editor for Elsevier’s e-Prime – Advances in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Energy. He also holds editorial board membership at International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, Scientific Reports, Journal of Bionic Engineering, Thermal Science & Engineering Progress, Energy Storage & Saving, and Automotive Innovation.

Prof  Ali Kosar

Sabanci University

Ali Koşar is a Distinguished Research Professor at Sabanci University. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is focusing on the design and development of new generation micro heat sinks with functional surfaces and microfluidic devices including cavitation on chip devices.

His research interests constitute a spectrum covering heat and fluid flow in micro/nano scale, condensation, boiling heat transfer, microfluidic systems, and cavitation. He co-authored over 150 research articles in top journals and 80 conference papers in prestigious international conferences. He has also a co-inventor on 7 granted patents and 7 pending patent applications.

He received numerous national and international honors, including the recent µFIP Prominent Researcher Award” in the 2021 micro Flow and Interfacial Phenomena (µFIP) Conference and METU (Middle East Technical University) Prof. Mustafa N. Parlar Foundation Science Award (2021). He is currently leading a large research group consisting of members from various disciplines, graduate students and engineers and to bridge different disciplines (Energy, Nanotechnology, Applied Physics, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Mechanical Engineering).

He has been successful to secure funding for his research activities from a wide variety of national and international resources. He also serves as a reviewer in many prestigious journals and is a Subject Editor in the Applied Thermal Engineering journal.

He is the Co-director of Center of Excellence for Functional Surfaces and Interfaces for Nano diagnostics (EFSUN) and a Distinguished Researcher of Sabanci University Nanotechnology and Application Center and a Member of Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).

Prof  Denis Maillet

Université de Lorraine

Denis Maillet is Emeritus professor of Heat transfer at the Université de Lorraine (UL). He received a MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University (1975) and a PhD (1982) and a Doctorat d’Etat (1991) from UL.

He specialized in inverse techniques and measurements in heat transfer and is involved in the activities of the METTI group, which deals with this class of techniques within the French Heat Transfer Society (SFT). Denis Maillet is an associate editor of International Journal of Thermal Sciences since 2008 and a delegate for France at the Assembly of the IHTC conferences since 2008.

Prof Maillet has applied inverse techniques to thermal non-destructive testing of materials/structures, boiling heat transfer, thermal dispersion in porous media and to mini and macro heat exchangers.

Prof  Ji Hwan Jeong

Pusan National University

Professor Ji-Hwan Jeong is a Professor of School of Mechanical Engineering at Pusan National University in Korea. He graduated Seoul National University and obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1995 from KAIST.

During his post-doctoral research at University of Oxford, he contributed to thermochromic liquid crystal technique and simultaneously captured heat transfer coefficient and driving gas temperature in transonic flow environment.

He worked across several fields of thermal engineering including heat transfer augmentation techniques, single and two-phase flow heat exchangers, and nuclear thermal-hydraulics. His work on the ‘Dropwise condensation and maldistribution of two-phase flow in heat exchangers’, ‘Thermo-hydraulic design of compact heat exchangers’, and ‘Novel heat exchanger designs for refrigerators, heat pumps and other systems’ has impacted the industry positively resulting in the development of Next Generation Heat Exchangers.
Professor Jeong has contributed to the profession at the international level by participating in the professional societies.

He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of “Int J Air-conditioning and Refrigeration”, an Associate Editor of “J. Mechanical Science & Technology”, and serving as President of Commission B2 of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and Delegate of Assembly for International Heat Transfer Conferences (IHTC).
